Burnaby mountain & surroundings

26 september 2009 - Burnaby, Canada

Still enjoying a solid 20°C, I walked through Queens Park towards the skytrain in New Westminster.
There I bought a daypass (9 CAD) for the local public transport company. I rode the skytrain all the way to the end and went back to the stop "Production Way/University". There I took the bus to Simon Fraser University, which is located on Burnaby Mountain.

On top of the mountain you'll find most of the SFU campus, including a Subway, bank, coffee place and a whole lot of student housing. It wasn't too impressive but I talked to some nice girls up there :-)
Since I wanted to take some good panoramic pictures of the city, I started searching around for a good spot but couldn't really find one. I ended up getting lost (again!) and going downhill on an expert mountainbike trail, which turned out to be pretty fun!!
If I ever were to live here, I would definitely choose this as a hobby. The busses are equiped with a rack to place your bike on, so you just go up the hill with the bus & go downhill with the bike. Perfect!

Afterwards, I went on to visit Queens Elizabeth Park in Vancouver. I actually got there by accident, but it turned out to be one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen. There's a beautiful botanic garden, a waterfall, sports accommodations, a great view and it's so relaxing. Just check the pictures!

These two places made me realize that Vancouver is indeed a very beautiful city. There's always something going on, everything is so close, there are places where you can easily chill out for a whole day and the food is good. I still prefer Barcelona at the moment but at least everyone speaks English here :-)
