Arrival

21 september 2009 - Vancouver International Airport, Canada

After a 10 hour flight, with a delay of 30 minutes because the cargo doors wouldn't close, I finally got to Vancouver. The flight itself was excellent! Except for a lack of leg space, there's nothing really to complain about.. The food was good, we got enough to drink and eat during the flight and the flight attendants were friendly.

Arriving at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), I was in for quite a shock. It looked like I had just arrived in Asia, because all the people working there were either Japanese or Indian.
Things did go smoothly however, and in about an hour I was out of there.

Dave picked me up for the airport and we set off to his home in Burnaby. On the way, I noticed how common Van City looks compared to the USA. A lot of low buildings, convenience stores, fastfood restaurants and older cars.

Another shocker came when I got to Dave's house. He had arranged a place for me to stay in Vancouver, but the landlord sold her house the day I got there. Luckily, she knew a coworker who had a room available for rent, so on Wednesday the 23rd I moved to New Westminster.
(Funny coincidence if you think about it.. I've been living all my life in Newminster, I go half around the planet to end up in New Westminster)
